A Hairy Field Spider in the centre of it's silk web

In June 2008 Bergwaters was invited to participate in an exercise whereby 5 Barn Owls, reared in captivity at the Dullstroom Bird Of Prey and Rehabilitation Centre, were to be acclimatised and released in to the wild. The birds were fed for 10 days in an enclosure which was then opened, allowing the birds’ free movement to and from the enclosure. We then continued feeding; gradually reducing the quantity until ultimately the birds were independent and hunting for their own food..
